Notice is given that a written examination will be given by the Ravenna City Civil Service Commission for the purpose of establishing an eligibility list for future Dispatcher vacancies and hirings with the City of Ravenna.

Application: Applications are available and may be obtained from the law office of Attorney Timothy R. Thomas, 402 S. Chestnut Street, Ravenna, Ohio 44266. There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee, payable upon submitting the application to take the exam. Applications are available Monday through Friday during the following hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (closed 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and legal holidays). To be accepted, application must be properly, legibly, and completely filled out. The deadline for submission of properly completed and acknowledged applications shall be Friday, March 2, 2018, at 4:00 p.m. Any application after that date and time will not be accepted.

POSITION CLASSIFICATIONS:
The position of Parks and Recreation Director in the City of Ravenna is not classified under the Ohio Civil Service Commission, is Exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not included in a collective bargaining agreement.

PURPOSE:
The Parks and Recreation Director shall control, equip and manage playgrounds, play fields, indoor recreation centers or other parks and recreation facilities and any land or building owned by the municipality for parks and recreation purposes. The Parks and Recreation Director shall develop, implement, coordinate, and supervise specialized comprehensive citywide programs in one or more of the following general areas: indoor and outdoor education/recreation, athletics, parks/playgrounds, senior citizens’ programs, marketing and communication programs, internal and external special events, public relations, and program sponsorships.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages subordinate supervisors and supervises staff. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, recommending and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; reward and discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Plans and directs the construction, maintenance and operation of all public recreation and park facilities and buildings.
2. Directs the preparation and execution of the annual programs of recreational activities.
3. Prepares and administers operating and capital improvement budget requests.
4. Updates and maintains department operating procedures.
5. Prepares and presents reports.
6. Prepares and submits annual and specific program budget estimates of income and expenses.
7. Develops and administers program of public relations/marketing.
8. Researches, applies for and administers grants.
9. Interacts with users to encourage maximum proper use of all facilities.
10. Attends Council, Boards and Commissions meetings as needed.
11. Other duties may be assigned. The duties listed above are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability required. 1. Bachelor Degree in Recreation, Education or Management; and two (2) years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. Ability to understand and carry out written instructions and oral instructions. Must demonstrate ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others.
3. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and standard operating manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
4. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical models. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
5. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
6. Knowledge of computer system functions, knowledge of modern office procedures; ability to access, input and retrieve information from a computer.
7. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and current Social Media tools.
8. Certification as Certified Park and Recreation professional as well as CPR and First Aid preferred; or willingness to obtain.
9. Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.

11. Demonstrated experience in writing, obtaining and administering grants preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The City of Ravenna is a non-smoking working environment.
The noise level in the work environment is normally quiet, but may, at times, be very busy and hectic. The majority of work will consist of normal office conditions, however, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste and smell. The employee will frequently move up to 50 pounds and will occasionally be working in an outdoor setting. 

Administrative Clerk

The County seat of Portage County, Ravenna is very much "Main Street, USA". Founded in 1799 and developed throughout the 1800s, Ravenna is a wonderful blend of 1800s architecture, century homes, and modern housing and industry.

JOB SUMMARY - Administrative Clerk:
Works in an administrative clerical pool in multiple capacities and roles as needed for all city departments to provide absence coverage or work on special projects. Perform secretarial duties such as answering the phone, directing calls or taking messages, staff correspondence, making appointments, typing documents, sorting and filing documents, etc.

SCHEDULE:
This is an on-call position to cover absences, vacations, etc. Average is 8-16 hours per week, but this is not a guaranteed minimum.

RATE OF PAY: $11/HR
This position participates in P.E.R.S.

EXPERIENCE AND KEY CHARACTERISTICS:
The type of person who will be successful is one that is people oriented, can handle multiple priorities, understands secretarial duties, and is highly organized.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to work effectively with elected officials, co-workers, the general public, and government agencies on all levels with a positive and helpful demeanor
  • Demonstrates high integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Outstanding oral, written communications and interpersonal skill to be able to meet with the public and direct them to who can best address their concerns
  • Professional and appropriate dress required
  • Must have a high school diploma and or G.E.D.
  • Related experience and business coursework is preferred
  • Must pass a drug screen and complete a full background check performed by Ravenna P.D.

Certified Group Exercise Instructor

The City of Ravenna Athletic Center (RAC) is hiring instructors holding a current national group exercise certification and/or a current national personal trainer certification.

Additional minimum requirements :

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High school education or equivalent
  • Possess a valid Ohio driver’s license
  • Possess a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
  • Current National Group Exercise/Personal Trainer certification that has a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) accreditation.
  • Possess Silver Sneakers’ certification or willing to become Silver Sneakers’ certified a plus.

Prior experience instructing an exercise group preferred

Good communication skills are a must.
