Water Treatment

The City of Ravenna Utilities Department manages the Water and Sewer systems for the City. Our staff is committed to providing the highest quality water and the best services available.

Completed in 1984, the Lake Hodgson Water Treatment Plant was built to replace the Crystal Lake plant originally built in 1885. The need for this new treatment plant was dramatically illustrated by a fire which occurred at the Crystal Lake Plant on August 4, 1979. The fire left the city without water for two days.

Planning for the new plant first began in 1973 and was completed in 1981. The actual construction took 26 months and $9,597,000 to complete.

With a design flow capacity of 6 million gallons per day, expandable to 9 million gallons per day, the current plant more than serves the needs of the community today and for the foreseeable future.

The plant utilizes some of the most modern technology available to ensure the highest water quality possible.

Water is continuously monitored throughout all phases of the treatment process. A modern lab at the facility enables the plant's chemist to perform all necessary tests required by State laws and EPA regulations. The chemist monitors the lake water at various depths and checks it at various points in the treatment process in order to determine proper chemical levels and treatment times.

Following treatment, water is delivered via one or more of the four high capacity pumps, pumping at a normal flow of approximately 2300-2700 gallons per minute.
