Welcome to the City of Ravenna. We are very proud of our City and we invite you to explore our web site and discover a small sampling of what Ravenna has to offer.

The County seat of Portage County, Ravenna is very much "Main Street, USA". Founded in 1799 and developed throughout the 1800s, Ravenna is a wonderful blend of 1800s architecture, century homes, and modern housing and industry. Our downtown area is full of nostalgia, reminiscent of a time when Main Street was a place where people would congregate, converse, and do business.

Whether you're looking to relocate your family, or you're looking for a new location for your business, Ravenna is definitely worth considering. Please visit us and learn what our residents already know... Ravenna is a great place to live, work and play.

Ravenna Flag Pole Restoration

Restoration of Ravenna's Flag Pole to begin Tuesday July 29th, 2014

Friends of the Flagpole Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit Ohio corporation today announced that restoration work will commence on the historic Ravenna flagpole.

The work will begin (weather permitting) on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 7 am when the flagpole will be disassembled to be trucked to a local sandblasting firm. The flagpole will come down the same way it went up over 120 years ago – in sections. The pole and the infrastructure will be sandblasted and then prepped with a special coating used in the aeronautical industry and known for its strength and endurance. Dismantling the iconic structure will take around 8 hours. Vehicular traffic on Main Street in Ravenna near the Courthouse will be restricted. South Chestnut Street from Main to Spruce will be closed. The base of the structure will be prepped in place and a new base, lighting, and an ornamental fence will be erected. All the work, including reassembly is expected to be completed before Ravenna’s annual Balloon-A-Fair, held the third weekend of September.

The City of Ravenna will provide free, all-day parking at the City lot at the corner of Cedar and Meridian Streets to those who wish to watch the flagpole disassembled that day.

Ravenna City Fire to receive AHA Mission Award

Ravenna City Fire to receive
2014 Bronze Mission Lifeline Award.

The Ravenna City Fire Department is among 22 other agencies in Ohio, and 207 agencies across the country, that are receiving the inaugural 2014 American Heart Association Mission: Lifeline EMS Performance Achievement Award.

This award recognizes EMS teams across the nation for their vital role in providing timely treatment for STEMI patients through Mission: Lifeline systems of care.  'STEMI (ST segment elevation myocardial infarction)' refers to a specific type of potentially fatal cardiac 'event' in which early recognition, aggressive treatment, and rapid intervention are key to patient survivability.  In order to achieve the Performance Award, each agency had to achieve a 75% or higher compliance score for each of the following measures for a 3-12 month period ...

  1. Percentage of patients with non-traumatic chest pain > or = 35 years of age, treated and transported by EMS who receive a pre-hospital 12 lead EKG
  2. Percentage of STEMI patients transported to a STEMI receiving center, with pre-hospital First Medical Contact (FMC) to Device (PCI) <= 90 Minutes.
  3. Percentage of STEMI patients taken to referring hospitals who administer fibrinolytic therapy with a door to needle time within 30 minutes.

Ravenna City Fire/EMS is receiving the Bronze award which further requires achieving these measures for three months (one quarter), and treated at least four STEMI patients for the year.

The receipt of this award is significant in that it demonstrates the excellent Emergency Medical Services provided by the Ravenna City Fire Department.  For more information concerning the Mission Lifeline program click HERE.
