Welcome to the City of Ravenna. We are very proud of our City and we invite you to explore our web site and discover a small sampling of what Ravenna has to offer.

The County seat of Portage County, Ravenna is very much "Main Street, USA". Founded in 1799 and developed throughout the 1800s, Ravenna is a wonderful blend of 1800s architecture, century homes, and modern housing and industry. Our downtown area is full of nostalgia, reminiscent of a time when Main Street was a place where people would congregate, converse, and do business.

Whether you're looking to relocate your family, or you're looking for a new location for your business, Ravenna is definitely worth considering. Please visit us and learn what our residents already know... Ravenna is a great place to live, work and play.

Captain Jeff Wallis to be promoted to Chief of Police ...

Mayor Frank Seman is proud to announce the promotion of Captain Jeff Wallis to the position of Police Chief for the Ravenna City Police Department. Captain Wallis will fill the vacancy created with the retirement of Chief Tim Adkins.

Captain Wallis has been with the department for 19 years and has served in many capacities within the department. He has consistently demonstrated tremendous leadership qualities and great compassion for those in need. A lifelong Ravenna resident, Captain Wallis cares deeply about our community. His impressive skill set combined with his philosophy on policing will serve the community well. We have every confidence that through his leadership the Police Department will excel and will continue to play a crucial role in improving our community.

Captain Wallis will be officially sworn in on Monday July 24th at 1:30PM. The ceremony will take place in Ravenna City Council Chambers.
New Full Time Officer

Ptl. Josh Twigg and Mayor Frank Seman
On Wednesday July 19th, the Ravenna Police Department increased our full time patrol staff by one more officer. Mayor Seman swore in Joshua Twigg to full time patrolman at Ravenna City Hall in front of several of his family members and RPD officers. Joshua has prior police experience with the Springfield Township Police Department and is a Ravenna native. Again, with the continued support from the City’s Administration and the community, we were fortunate to hire another officer. I fully anticipate Joshua being able to help and support the Departments continued community policing efforts to make Ravenna a safe place to live, work and visit.

Parks and Recreation Event Program Guide

The Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is publishing a city-wide event program guide to provide a comprehensive resource for the community. We are inviting both the public and private sector businesses to submit their recreational & educational programs, workshops and special events to be included in this publication.

This program guide will be distributed the third week of August to include programs beginning in late August through the end of the year. Distribution will include all the school aged children in Ravenna, and adjacent rural school systems, corporate partners, Senior centers, libraries and various venues throughout the area. Approximately 10,000 pieces will be printed. This collaboration allows us to create a high quality marketing tool that better informs residents about everything Ravenna has to offer. Events will be categorized by demographic (preschool, youth, teen, adult, senior adult, special event, family, etc.). Events will also be listed in chronological order.

New Full Time Patrol Officers
Today the Ravenna Police Department increased our full time patrol staff by three. Mayor Seman swore in Tyler Lohr, Joshua Erb and Christopher Staple from part-time patrolman to full-time patrolman in a ceremony at City Hall in front of their family members and several RPD officers. Because of the strong support from the City Administration and the community, we were fortunate to be able to hire them. It is important for our police officers to maintain good relationships with the public and these three officers have shown that they will support the Department’s community policing efforts to help make Ravenna a safe place to live, work and visit.
