City of Ravenna - Winter Weather

Ah, the joy of living in Northeast Ohio during the winter. Residents who have been here their entire lives know what it's all about. New residents may be experiencing their first taste of "old man winter Ohio style". No matter how used to it you've become, it's important to remember winter brings a lot of changes.

The City of Ravenna is committed to help "ease" the inconvenience often caused by snow accumulation from winter storms. Our Street department stands ready to provide snow removal from our roadways. And our Police and Fire Departments are always prepared and ready to assist when called upon.

Drive Carefully!

Icy roads and decreased visibility during "white-out's" are common causes of traffic crashes during the winter months. Motorists are urged to slow down and drive with increased caution during inclement weather. Stopping distances are increased due to slick roads. Bridges ice over before roadways. Slow down ... be safe!

Take care of others ... and pets too!

Colder temperatures bring increased risk to health and safety, particularly in the elderly. This is the time of year when "looking out for one another" is most important. Check in frequently on home-bound friends and relatives to insure they are safe and well. Pets should have shelter from the elements, and on the coldest days should be brought inside.

Snow Parking Bans:

Snow parking bans are automatically in effect in certain areas (mainly the downtown area, as well as through streets and highways) whenever snow accumulation exceeds 2 inches. (See Codified Ordinance 452.17 "Snow Emergencies"). This is to facilitate snow removal by our street department crews. Vehicles in violation will be towed at the owners expense.

Snow Emergencies

The State of Ohio utilizes a "Snow Emergency Level" system during larger snow storms. The purpose of this system is to advise the public concerning road conditions and to reduce or limit traffic during more severe storms. Below are the three levels in the system.

As always, the Service Director and his staff are here to help.  If you are aware of an unsafe situation, or know of a person in need as a result of winter weather conditions, please don't hesitate to contact our office.  And of course, if the situation is an emergency contact the Police or Fire Departments immediately.
